The microstructure of films has a significant effect on their physical and chemical properties. In this regard, detailed studies on the microstructure of Al-Mg alloy films are essential for obtaining Al-Mg alloy films with outstanding properties including corrosion resistance. On the other hand, there have been no systematic investigations on the evolution of microstructures in sputter-deposited Al-Mg alloy films.
In NTFL, Al-Mg alloy films have been deposited on cold-rolled steel substrates by direct current (DC) sputtering. The microstructure evolution in relation to the key deposition parameters are investigated systematically.
